When a heavy-duty truck is driving on an uneven road surface, the wheels will produce vertical displacement. In the compression stroke, if the wheels move upward, the piston rod of the shock absorber is pressed into the shock absorber cylinder. At this time, the oil in the shock absorber cylinder is squeezed into other chambers through the valve system. The valve will generate a certain resistance according to the flow rate and pressure of the oil. This resistance is the compression damping force. It can prevent the wheels from moving upward too quickly, thereby reducing the vibration of the vehicle body.
In the rebound stroke, the wheels move downward and the piston rod extends out of the shock absorber cylinder. At this time, the oil flows in the reverse direction, and the valve plays a role again to control the return flow rate of the oil and generate rebound damping force. This damping force can prevent excessive rebound of the wheels and enable the vehicle to drive smoothly.
For shock absorbers with an air suspension system (if applicable), the air pressure in the air spring will be automatically adjusted according to the load of the vehicle. When the truck is loaded with goods, the weight of the vehicle body increases, and the air pressure in the air spring rises, making the suspension system harder to adapt to the increased load. When the goods are unloaded, the air pressure decreases and the suspension system becomes softer to ensure the comfort of the vehicle.
